Specialized Housing
The Bridge provides housing and services for individuals who have special needs.
HIV/AIDS Housing
The Bridge provides emergency/transitional housing and services for people with HIV/AIDS in a dedicated building in Manhattan. There is 24 hour, 7 day per week staffing that supports residents in addressing their medical, mental health and substance abuse treatment needs and assists them in obtaining permanent housing and services.
Housing for Older Persons with Mental Health/Medical Conditions
Sheridan Hill House
Sheridan Hill House is a unique residential program in New York City for seriously mentally ill older adults who have serious medical conditions. The program includes individual studio apartments, 24 hour 7 day per week staffing, and on-site nursing staff. Medications and medical regimens are carefully monitored. The program maintains a positive wellness culture with health education and wellness groups offered regularly. This model program not only provides residents with a familiar community living setting, it also avoids much more costly nursing home placement.
Housing For Women
Housing for Ex-Offenders
In response to the “trans-instittutionalization” of many thousands of the mentally ill from the mental health to the criminal justice system, The Bridge has been in the forefront of developing residential and support services for ex-offenders with mental illness and/or substance abuse.
Iyana House
Iyana House (“Iyana” is a Native American term meaning blessed home) provides incarcerated women who have serious mental illness and/or substance abuse with a pathway from prison to community integration, including permanent housing and wrap-around supportive services.
This innovative model program includes a Bridge In-Reach Team that visits Bedford Hills Correctional Facility on a regular basis to identify and work with potential to prepare them for their transition from incarceration. At the time of release program participants move into Iyana House, a permanent housing program, and begin their reintegration with the support of Bridge staff and a dedicated parole officer. Residents may access the full range of mental health, substance abuse and vocational services at The Bridge. The Iyana House Program is unique in New York City, offering permanent housing and ongoing support services.
Bridge Reintegration Housing
The Bridge provides reintegration housing in Manhattan to men and women who have mental illness and who are being released from State prisons. In addition to housing, participants receive case management and ongoing support services to link them to area treatment, vocational, educational, health and other appropriate services.
