Supportive Housing

Our supportive housing serves adults, seniors, and veterans living with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

Bridge residences offer a range of on-site services based on client level of need, including case management, advocacy, therapeutic activities, and linkages to community-based treatment and services.

We believe that housing is the cornerstone of rehabilitation, and a safe and affordable home can open the door to a better life.

Residences

At any given time, The Bridge houses over 1,500 individuals living with serious mental illness, many of whom have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity. Our supportive housing residents receive personalized rehabilitation, recovery, and support services with the goal of helping them to live independently in the community.

We operate 27 buildings along with an additional 500 scatter-site apartments in The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. The Bridge offers three levels of residential service: Shelter/Safe Haven, Transitional Housing and Permanent Supportive Housing.

Critical Care Services

The Critical Care Services program was developed to identify and provide specialized assistance to clients with needs that fall outside of the scope of traditional supportive housing. Because we are engaged in our clients’ everyday lives, we have unique knowledge of their needs and can assist them in finding the appropriate resources and referrals.

Services Offered

Aging Services

This program improves the quality of life for older Bridge residents by helping them stay connected to their treatment providers, increasing social connectedness, and preserving the highest level of autonomy possible through a range of clinical services. Our mobile treatment team makes it possible for clients to remain in their homes for as long as their health allows and receive care and support without traveling. Aging Services is the only program in New York City that combines housing, specialized geriatric care, and mobile treatment services for this underserved population.

Clinical Risk Management Team

This team addresses the needs of residents who are survivors or perpetrators of violence, individuals experiencing medical crises, and those with active suicidality by providing a high level of clinical support. Recognizing the growing prevalence of substance use and fatal overdoses, the Clinical Risk Management team provides psychoeducation and individual support to clients, as well as harm reduction training to residential staff.

Helping Organize My Environment (HOME) Initiative

For individuals struggling with hoarding, the accumulation of clutter obstructs living spaces and can lead to distress, increased risk of injury and isolation. The HOME team provides nonjudgmental clinical support to residents facing hoarding issues and helps them maintain safe living environments.

Housing Under Development

The Bridge is an experienced nonprofit sponsor, developer, property manager and service provider of supportive housing. A number of our Bridge buildings also contain an affordable housing component for the community.

Upcoming Projects

Bridge Rockaway

Bridge Rockaway is scheduled to open in July 2024. It will co-locate 174 supportive and affordable housing units with a separate ground floor light manufacturing space and a small community facility. This model paves the way for future development on underutilized property to address New York City’s long-term affordable housing crisis.

Safe Haven for the LGBTQ+ Community

In Summer 2024, The Bridge will start renovations of a building in the Bronx to create a new Safe Haven for the LGBTQ+ community. This will be the first Safe Haven in the city to address the specific needs of this population. The 42-bed Safe Haven will offer short-term dormitory-style shelter with wraparound services to help these individuals stabilize and move on to permanent supportive housing.

Bronx Location

A new 66-unit building is under construction in the Bronx with projected completion by July of 2025. The project will provide housing and supportive services to adults experiencing homelessness and living with serious mental illness, as well as low-income seniors.

Harlem Location

Soon to start new construction is a 92-unit building in Harlem that will offer housing and supportive services for adults living with serious mental illness and low-income seniors.

Inwood Location & Youth Center

Under development is a 181-unit building in Inwood that will offer housing and supportive services to adults with special needs and histories of homelessness, along with affordable housing for low-income families and singles. The Bridge plans to relocate its clinical services to the building, and there will be a youth center owned and operated by the Manhattan Bible Church.
